My Clattering And Chatting Mind

My mind chatters just like yours, but not the soft whispers of yours. It wanders into the thorns and bushes of long-forgotten events of my life bruising my sensitivity. It sent disturbing lingering noises down my spine and I felt its every scream. As expected, I have tried muting its clattering and chattering on many occasions but I have failed.

Mind-wandering is normal. Everyone’s mind chatters. The chattering is the inner dialogue that constantly provides solutions, gives advice and analyse stuff. Working with the brain, the inner voice gives you the clue on what shoes go with the colour of clothes you chose to wear. It plans out your day. Literally, it has a say in your life, your circumstances and the people you meet.

This voice vocalises your choices, it makes you fall in and out of love. The inner voice is part of you, it is YOU. It was there all along when you experienced the disappointments of life, the pain of losing someone close; the heartbreak. It was the soothing voice of encouragement. It hails you when you achieve and it sends its condolence when you fail.

What Does Happiness Mean To You?

There was something about my childhood that I often ponder: how happy I was. I didn’t know how this worked, food wasn’t in abundance and I didn’t have the luxury my children have today but I had a very happy and fulfilled childhood. I didn’t have a variety to choose from. Basic food, clothing, free air, paid water, lousy and nosy neighbours were all part of my happiness. The yearly trips to the countryside to see my grandmother and my cousins constituted my childhood happiness.

Quite often I listened to the dreams of adults around me, but they were quick to celebrate their little achievements and work harder to achieve more basic goals. I saw my mother break down many times over her struggle to make ends meet and I was part of the many hungry faces around but I never experienced the emotion associated with overwhelming sadness.

What Do You Really Want?

A Friend For Life

A few days ago, I got fixated on an article, it must have been the topic that got me hooked, I sank deeply in the softness of my pillow savaging the pleasure this good piece offered.

At the end of this article, I became confused. Not because the writing wasn’t good enough. No. It was one of the best writing I read in weeks. However, I was troubled with the question the writer threw at me at the end.

I have always known what I wanted in life, or so I thought. Things don’t usually land on my plate, somehow I cracked on with the thornsspines, and prickles of life.
