“What is a toxic parent?” you might ask. Well, a toxic parent is a mother, father or guardian whose presence in a child’s life causes more danger or damage emotionally, physically or psychologically to the child.

Toxic behaviours mean behaviours that are transmitted unto children that could cause potential harm directly or indirectly.

A toxic parent is a parent who inflicts emotional damage that affects a child’s sense of self. Any parent who is abusive verbally, physically and or (in some cases) sexually is toxic to any child. A toxic parent can also be a parent who is inadequate or ignores a child’s emotional needs. (more…)

There’s More to Me than the Eyes Met.

Picking up few of my belongings on the table, I scanned through the office which had become my point of call in the last few years. The computer assigned for my usage was still on the table sitting sturdily, the mark my spider plant left was still at the point where its house used to be and my reclining office desk chair was recovering from my weight after I stood up. The chair had been one of my worthy possession since I started work at the office.

My job had given me joy and I had enjoyed working with a diverse community. I learned so much and if there was anything in the world that gave me a bit of technical know-how as far as IT ( information technology) was concerned;  it was this job. (more…)

Life as my little girl sees it.

“We only live once”, this was what my little girl said as I turned to the road leading to her school. I concentrated on the road ahead in time to recover from the shock of her utterance. As I dropped her off at school that day and kissed her goodbye, I thought of what she said before rushing off to begin my daily monotonous routines.

I have heard this short phrase many times, I sometimes used it when talking to people, but, I never pondered on it until my 11 years old explained its meaning.

Sometimes, I express myself openly and some other times, I crawl backwards. I, however, found myself sinking into myself and shunning the world around me as my commitments and responsibilities expand. With the vigorous effects of life’s ups and downs, I have locked myself in unending spiralling vicious circles.
